Yardi Mining Services secures rehabilitation contract at Rio Tinto’s Robe Valley project

Yardi Mining Services (Yardi) is pleased to announce it has secured a contract to support rehabilitation activities across Rio Tinto’s managed Robe Valley[1] mine operations in the Pilbara.

The Robe Valley Rehabilitation Project represents a defining milestone for Yardi as the company’s first contract and marks the formal commencement of Yardi’s project delivery journey.

Yardi is a majority Aboriginal-owned joint venture between Robe River Services (RRS) and Mineral Resources’ wholly owned subsidiary, CSI Mining Services. The business delivers rehabilitation, civil earthworks and land restoration services across Western Australia’s resources sector.

Under the contract with Rio Tinto, Yardi will deliver rehabilitation works across the Mesa A and Mesa J hubs, supporting land restoration activities that contribute to Rio Tinto’s broader rehabilitation objectives across the Robe Valley operations.

For Yardi and the Robe River Kuruma (RRK) people, rehabilitation is about more than project delivery. It is an opportunity to be directly involved in restoring Country, protecting cultural and environmental values and contributing to positive and sustainable outcomes on Country which the RRK people have a deep and enduring connection.

RRK member, RRS Director and Yardi Chair Josie Alec said the award reflects the strength of its business model and its commitment to safe, reliable and culturally respectful project delivery.

“Securing Yardi’s first contract is a proud and important moment for our business,” Josie said.

“It reflects the confidence placed in our people, our capability and our joint venture model, and it demonstrates that Aboriginal-owned businesses can lead meaningful, high-quality project delivery in the resources sector.

“Robe Valley is also an opportunity to create meaningful pathways for Aboriginal participation, including Traditional Owner employment, training and capability development on Country. For RRK people, being involved in rehabilitation means helping care for Country, restore disturbed land and ensure cultural knowledge and connection remain central to how this work is delivered”.

The project will support a large workforce across project management, supervision, safety, survey, planning, maintenance, operators and entry-level Traditional Owner roles. Yardi will also work closely with RRK stakeholders, Rio Tinto and project partners to ensure the work is delivered with a strong focus on safety, environmental performance, heritage awareness and community respect.

Ahead of mobilisation, representatives from Yardi and Rio Tinto participated in a collaboration on Country with RRK Traditional Owners. The engagement provided an opportunity to listen, learn and build shared understanding of the significance of the work areas before operations commence.

The Robe Valley Rehabilitation Project strengthens Yardi’s position as an Aboriginal-led rehabilitation, civil and mining services provider in the Pilbara and provides a practical platform for Aboriginal employment, subcontractor participation and long-term capability building.
